What not to put in your drain or toilet.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators, Randy Cooper and Jon Yost, would like to remind you of a few things:

For a Garbage Disposal

When talking about a garbage disposal; rice, cooked fish, small wooden ice cream spoons, broken glass, popsicle sticks and watermelon seeds, bacon grease, oil and fat drippings will plug the drain when they go down. Wipe these with paper towels and throw away.

The seeds and broken glass will jam the disposal. The cooked fish and rice will plug up the drain in the kitchen. It is best not to use the disposal for more than a small portion of food. Never attempt to grind up chicken bones in your disposal. Only fruit, vegetables, and other soft items.

For a Bathroom

You really don't want to flush down any Q-tips, bobby pins, paper towels, children's toys like Hotwheel cars or other small toys that will fit in the palm of your hand. Children often toss things into the toilet. Another thing we have noticed, in our local businesses, are the small alcohol containers, sometimes referred to as "airplane bottles."

Other items not to go down the toilet are sanitary feminine napkins of any kind or too much paper.

Even if your feminine products label says "it's safe for flushing!" it likely will not be safe for the pipes in your home. Frequently, our Wastewater Department is called out for plumbing problems related to these issues, and we don't fix in-home problems. We only fix problems related to the main lines of Mulberry's sewers. You'll have to call a plumber. We recommend you throw away any questionable items. Save yourself the trouble.

If you use these guidelines, the drains are sure to stay clear, and you'll keep your toilet happy!
